Great compilation. Those tracks by "Baked Beans" and "Oliver Lieb" are nice too, who the hell are they?? I'd like to see the movie - cause I don't think I made it... (I'd also like to see 'Albino Alligator' btw, still not released in Europe...). And again... nice artwork. Q. Will this "Joyride" soundtrack be a us-only release, or will it be released 'over here' later? Date: Wed, 26 Nov 1997 13:32:32 EST From: Tina Murphy Subject: Joyride review From:Tina Murphy Wanted to share this glowing movie review from Entertainment Weekly: Straight to Tape: Joyride, starring Tobey Maguire, Wilson Cruz, Amy Hathaway, Adam West (1997) All the style, content, and relevance of plastic vomit. A regurgitation of cliches posing as a story, this thriller involved two wimpy best buds and a kittenish hooker whose lives intersect at a fleabag motel in the middle of nowhere. After swiping a motel guest's groovy-looking Cutlass, they discover that its owner, a killer for hire, has stashed her latest stiff in the trunk. The promising cast can't rise above this lowest-end-of-the-food chain road flick. F Beware! And well... after watching it I can understand why it went straight to video over here. I've seen worse and I've seen better. Acting and directing is OK but the story just isn't that good... But hell, that wasn't the reason why I picked it up. Its the music... There are a lot more bits and pieces of the 4AD history in this picture than IWR could fit on one soundtrack cd. These tracks were listed at the end of the closing titles: Lush - Light From A Dead Star Spirea X - Chlorine Dream Lush - Desire Lines Tarnation - Game of Broken Hearts This Mortal Coil - Acid, Bitter & Sad Paladins - Years Since Yesterday Pale Saints - A Thousand Stars Burst Open This Mortal Coil - Meniscus Baked Beans - Unbearable Lightness Of Bean Baked Beans - Human Bean Michael Brook - Breakdown Lush - Runaway Oliver Lieb - Subsonic Interferences This Mortal Coil - Loose Joints This Mortal Coil - Dreams Like Water Scheer - Cannon This Mortal Coil - Ivy And Need Pieter Nooten & Michael Brook - Finally II Colourbox - Looks Like We're Shy On Horse Pale Saints - King Fade Swallow - Head In A Cave Swallow - Cherry Stars Collide -> At this point in the movie the killer-woman shouts: "You changed the tires and you've got a shitty fucking taste of music... Shut that thing up! (talking about the car radio) Get on your knees!" And then the two guys were 'killed'... Pieter Nooten & Michael Brook - Instrumental Dif Juz - No Motion His Name Is Alive - Home Last One So the two cd-tracks 'This Mortal Coil - Something Borrowed' and 'Colourbox - Shoot Out' are not mentioned. It's "4AD-soundtrack-weekend" over here cause tomorrow I'm going to rent 'Albino Alligator'... Date: Mon, 3 Aug 1998 18:40:28 -0700 From: shane Subject: Richenel, Joyride, Air Miami I still haven't found the video, so this is from the Internet Movie DataBase (http://us.imdb.com/): ''To a dumpy motel in an out-of-the-way little town, a mysterious woman, calling herself only Ms. Smith, comes to stay. Not only is she stunningly lovely, but her big black convertible is a beaut. J.T., the just-out-of-high-school son of the motel's owner, is taken by the car, and in an attempt to liven up his dull life, and possibly to impress Tanya, a hotel guest who flirts with him and wants to be a model, he steals the car, and brings along Tanya and his pal James. What they don't know is that Ms. Smith is a professional killer, and J.T. thinks he can make things work to his advantage when the three of them find a corpse in the trunk of the stolen vehicle...''
