There are six everyday individuals, in modern Prague, who "obsessively and painstakingly prepare their 'sexual feasts'. Like fastidious chefs, they concoct - with the aid of an array of objects, animals, and bizzare sexual contrapions - an orgasmin meal of hilarious and literally explosive results. As their solitary paths criscross, we seehow Scankmajer condenses the sexual, social and political in a society still breaking with a sexually puritanical past." - Rice Media Center bulletin.. It really isn't sexually explicit, or at least I don't think so. I really see it as being a film about making art and the surrealistic interplay between fantasy and reality, which would make it a film about sex, which would make the two one and the same.. just my two cents, but there ya go. Has anyone else seen this? I think it's really neat that Svankmajer thanks Luis Bunel, Giuseppe Arcimboldo, Max Ernst, Sigmung Freud, De Sade and Sacher-Masoch. The use of color and imagery would be brethtaking enough alone but even more breathtaking is Svankmajer's narrative strength. Imagine how difficult it is to tell a story using no words at all, not even little cue cards in between scenes! Anyway, you should all go see it. It's not playing in Houston anymore, but I'm sure it can be found in other major cities, still. Has anyone seen Institut Benjamina who could compare that film with this one? I'm still kicking myself for cancelling on my boyfriend so I could finish a piece instead. hi-ho.
