It's at the Cornerhouse for any of you nearby, and is on until early September. There are two galleries of exhibits, and of course, most of it is devoted to his/their work with 4AD. It's certainly impressively mounted, and worth seeing - although I guess many of you, like me, have much of the stuff at home. There is a video installation, but it's no great shakes really. The most bizarre thing is a collection of steel buckets randomly placed around the space, with a V23 logo on, and each containing a 12" vinyl 4AD record warped into a strange shape. A rather bitter comment on the death of vinyl methinks. I wouldn't travel to see it, but if you're in Manchester in the next month, it's definitely worth popping by (and the Cornerhouse has an excellent, and cheap, cafe) - Dez My irregular list of current listening follows: Throwing Muses - Limbo (4AD) Spooky - Found Sound (Generic) Bardo Pond - Amanita (Matador) Underworld - Second Toughest In The Infants (Junior Boys' Own) Voodoo Child - The End Of Everything (Mute) Neneh Cherry - Woman (Hut single) Sebadoh - Beauty Of The Ride (Domino single) Mr Scruff - Limbic Funk (Pleasure 12") Kelley Deal 6000 - Go To The Sugar Altar (Nice) Disco Inferno - Technicolour (Rough Trade) Date: Fri, 9 Aug 1996 09:31:07 +0000 From: Richard Clemens (Richard.Clemens@ucsalf.ac.uk) Subject: Re: Is Minty A Man I was going to drop in a line about this, you beat me to it Dez. I don't really think sticking record sleeves all over a gallery works. Sure individually they are very nice and everything, but maybe I just hate galleries, too impersonal, too staged. We did however get very interested in the CDs stuck on the wall - there were a couple there I haven't got...! By all means call in if your in Manchester andhave sometime free. I want one of those buckets. Whatever you do don't go upstairs. There is stuff about some Greek myth or something where the poetry fella goes into the underworld made horribly modern, badly (I never did classics at school) dreadful dull paintings done for some cheap kids books to be given as presents by people who hate kids. The worst was the artist was there on Saturday so we couldn't really complain out loud. The, ahem, poetry underneath was even worse. Finally Dez, wher is this cheap cafe in the corner house? The only one I can find gives tiddly portions for half a mint. Richard.
