Since no-one else has answered yet as far as I know: There's an Insides demo given a pretty excited release in the Singles column of the latest (August 26) "Melody Maker". The two tracks are called "Blue Nimbus" and "Blueswailing", the review seems to suggest it's more like "Euphoria" than "Clear Skin", and ends with "If this doesn't get a release, I'll put it out on my own f***ing label." I can't understand why 4AD dropped this band. I really, really can't. The review is of a demo casette the reviewer got through the post without any covering information, so whether or not someone has signed them up is unclear. (Well, it's nice to be back, finally. I got lost in the move to american.edu and it's taken me this long to get resubscribed!) @*=-.,_,.--`'^'`--.,_,.--`'^'`--=*@@*=--`'^'`--.,_,.--`'^'`--.,_,.-=*@ | Anthony. | @*=-.,_,.--`'^'`--.,_,.--`'^'`--=*@@*=--`'^'`--.,_,.--`'^'`--.,_,.-=*@ Date: Wed, 12 Feb 1997 21:54:15 +0000 From: starlite walker (ma6so@BATH.AC.UK) Subject: Re: Insides 'Clear Skin'? I've never heard this band > before - can someone give me a idea of the sound of this band, what is this > song like, and is it worth getting, etc? this is a favourite of mine, the track is about 38 mins long and for the most part is constructed around a xylophone loop (plenty of delay), i remember finding this loop amusing the first time i heard it, but that did'nt last. the track builds up really slowly with a new sound or two coming into the mix every 3 or 4 minutes - you can tell when theres one coming because they have this kind of bubbly water noise which they put in solely for this. a female vocal loop comes in somewhere around the 20 minute mark and after that everything starts getting ridiculously beautiful with more genius guitar loops coming in. after drifting about in this state for a while the song completely changes and you start again with a new loop; this time it builds up much more quickly and with much more stuff going on, the climax of this part is just amazing. then after that there is about 8 mins or so of drifting about at the end. this is definitely worth getting, as is their proper album 'euphoria' which is not that special but has a couple of must-own tracks on it ('darling effect', 'carly simon' etc.) insides used to make music in a completely different style under the name of earwig. i have one earwig ealbum called 'past' which i like, does anyone know if there are any more?. Insides are now on Third Stone, home of the late Bark Psychosis and (on the offshoot Space Age label) Sonic Boom in his many guises. They have a track on the recent "A Taste of Third Stone Records vol 2" sampler, and while I was never a big Insides fan (apart from "Clear Skin") it sounds pretty good to me. The compilation's very mixed - some atrocious techno, mediocre pop songs, an edit of BP's "Murder City", an ARKane alternate mix from the feeble last album, absolutely dire punk rock (I can only think that Goober Patrol are the label boss's little brother and his mates), and some great Space Age stuff - a previously unreleased Spacemen 3 instrumental from a forthcoming album, one from the next Spectrum album, a solo track from one of Magnog and a couple of others. -- Andrew Norman, Leicester, England andrew@riverrun.demon.co.uk http://www.riverrun.demon.co.uk/ Date: Wed, 6 Jan 1999 21:18:17 -0800 From: "Chris.Hanks" Subject: FS: Insides Promo 12" I have a somewhat rare Insides promo 12" for sale.
