Listies: I'm working on a list the songs Liz Fraser worked on outside the Cocteau Twins (for a personal compilation disc). I know these: THIS MORTAL COIL - sixteen days - gathering dust (1983, 4AD should re-release it on cd!!) - song to the siren (1983) - another day (1984) DIF JUZ - love insane (1985) FELT - primitive painters (198? -> when? can't find it on the sleeve) GRAIG ARMSTRONG - this love (1998) MASSIVE ATTACK - teardrop (1998) - black milk (1998) - group four (1998) But there must be more projects. I know she did a song together with Ian McCulloch on his 'Candyland' album... when? what's the name? Date: Sun, 19 Jul 1998 18:09:11 -0700 From: |m|m|m| Subject: Re: vocals: Elizabeth Fraser ??? Two spring to mind immediately - (oop 3 actually, this is live, realtime thought processes of the Kenny!) Butterfly Knife on Fuel's Timeless EP - many recent posts about this EP, I shan't repeat except to say it's a 5-track CD on Diffusion Records and is apparently hard to find Lifeforms with Future Sound of London, I guess on the album (lifeforms is the title? or not?), certainly on the single which is 40 minutes long anyway :) A song by Medicine which was on the soundtrack to The Crow, forgotten its name. Not sure if the version on the soundtrack CD had Liz on it, the CD single did (with "additional guitars" by Robin if I remember correctly) And the unexpected #4, "Be Still" by Peace Together, a huge flop of a charity record, again single and album though I think for sure Liz was only on the single, 4 tracks featuring the "Be Still" (a song with very cheesy lyrics about children affected by the Troubles in Northern Ireland - heart in the right place I guess but pretty bad anyway) recorded by a "supergroup" - Feargal Sharkey, Sinead O'Connor, Liam O'Maonloai, Naci Griffith etc, the Cocteau Twins "remix" (read "version") of this song, plus Therapy covering The Police's Invisible Sun and "Be Still" by Sabres of Paradise, 11 mins of Liam O'Maonlloai playing a penny whistle over a clanging Weatherall background. The whole package ain't much cop. Sorry if this is too much detail!! Loveliest thing FSOL have done and one of Liz's better efforts in recent years, I reckon. Contrary to what someone else said, she *isn't* on the album (which features Toni Halliday in completely undetectable quantities). As well as "Primitive Painters" she allegedly sang on "The Day the Rain Came Down" too, though if she's really on that track she contributes very minimal backing vocals. And she wasn't on the Harold Budd album, either - "Lovely Thunder" has one of the tracks from the B/F/G/R album remixed and renamed, but it is one of the long instrumentals. I think it's called "Flowered Knife Shadows" or something similar, and is dedicated to Simon Raymonde. By the way, can anyone tell me anything else about this record? I found it used a while back and think it's great. It has two versions of "Sixteen Days" as well as "Song to the Siren". Oi! Can't believe y'all forgot the one right in front of yer face. Liz does vocals on Simon Raymonde's "Blame Someone Else" album. Which tracks I forget, which is probably the same reason we forgot that altogether....not especially memorable (IMHO). Isn't this in the FAQ? (Granted, the FAQ is now approaching the size of the entire Microsoft website). Three TMC singles - the "Song to the Siren" EP, "Kangaroo" / "It'll End in Tears" (7" only, the B-side is an alternative version of one of the instrumentals on the album of the same name) and a 10" with "Drugs" and "Come Here My Love" (both, as far as I know, the versions on the second album). And a track on the "Lonely is an Eyesore" compilation, of course. Date: Thu, 23 Jul 1998 19:29:01 +0100 From: Andrew Norman Subject: Re: vocals: Elizabeth Fraser ??? Actually, it sounds as though they re-recorded the song & patched on portions of the vocals she'd done for the album, tho' I can't confirm this. The song is "Time Baby 3" in both cases, the version on the EP may be a remix. Also, the version on "The Crow" is called "Time Baby III", I think (don't have The Crow album). > FUTURE SOUND OF LONDON (FSOL) > - Lifeforms (many versions) > from "Lifeforms ep" 1994 (not on the lp!)
